At staging now…

Category: UncategorizedCharlene @ 11:30 am

…and I’m having some down time here in Atlanta.  I’m the only PCMI person and have met one other person doing health work so far.  And I’m still working on a paper for Clarence’s class…I’m sooo behind :( so I may try asking him for a weekend extension so that I can work on it on the plane.

Ick.  Winner will be selected soon and posted here…craziness abounds!

Party recap

Category: UncategorizedCharlene @ 9:45 am

I unfortunately forgot my camera, so the memory shall remain with those attending - except for the nifty presentations! Manuel’s had Wisconsin-brewed beer that we had while on our road trip that I think is pretty uncommon to have on tap in other places.  Tom presented facts as how they related to New Zealand; for example, the capitals of New Zealand and Mongolia have the same number of letters in their name, and the armed forces’ size of both countries are within 10 of each other.  Bonnie presented on traditional religious dances which disappeared during communist rule and were re-inaugurated only in 2002.  Rob and Susan presented a field guide (subset, but still) of animals in Mongolia, most of which were cute - like the long-eared hedgehog, which I am now supposed to import eventually.  Julie “forgot” to bring anything, and Gigi, Judy, and Manood didn’t even bother mentioning anything :)

Good times by all, and it’ll be hard to be away…

Care package-like items I’d like in Mongolia

Category: UncategorizedCharlene @ 6:11 am

As a general idea, as I’ve been asked by several people:

Food - not sure quite yet, but I like almost anything from Trader Joe’s. Items more on the non-meat end are infinitely more appealing. Items that are more non-perishable are also preferred. I may be looking for spices, but not sure what I’d like yet.

News/books/reading - whatever’s cheap, but I like things like local weeklies (like the Stranger or Creative Loafing), NYTimes or LATimes, graphic novels, sci-fi/fantasy, funny stuff, good fiction, The Economist, Seed magazine, and stuff like that. I’d also like news about you.

Pictures - I would totally put em up on whatever wall-like surfaces I have.

Surprises - I like those too :)

Not asking, just sayin’

Contact info in Mongolia

Category: UncategorizedCharlene @ 6:04 am

Mail: Below is a link (pdf) with instructions for mailing things to Mongolia, plus printable labels of sorts for my soon-to-be new address (until September at least) there. It has all the info you’d ever want about sending things to me…

Mailing instructions to Mongolia

Email: I will be trying to continue to use my UW and Duke alumni accounts. That may change as I get irritated to down to just one.

Phone: Unknown as of yet, but supposedly I will be issued a cell phone for work there. I may try to set up a skype/VOIP-like thing so that ppl in the US can call as if it were a local US number.

Emergencies: FYI my primary contact for emergencies is Bonnie (duh). I have other people down as secondaries, but as far as I am concerned she’s the one you need to talk to if you really need to get something to me and can’t get a hold of me yourself.
